Parasha Thoughts
By Rabbi Shlomo Zargari
Shalom,
This parasha starts with the verse: “See I am placing before you today a blessing “(11,26). Rabbi Hayim HaCohen explains that the Torah does not tell us if we keep the mitzvot, HaShem will give us a blessing, and if GD forbid one commits a sin, He will bring a curse. The blessing is hidden within the Mitzva itself and the curse is embedded within the sin. One who performs a Mitzva brings the blessing upon himself with his own hands, and conversely if he sins, he is bringing the destructive results upon himself.
This, in fact, is brought out in the Midrash: ( Devarim Rabba 4,3) when HaShem uttered the above mentioned verse. The following verse in Echa can shed light onto our understanding of what’s taking plate (3,37 ): . מִפִּ֤י עֶלְיוֹן֙ ×œÖ¹Ö£× ×ªÖµ×¦ÖµÖ”× ×”Ö¸×¨Ö¸×¢Ö–×•Ö¹×ª וְהַטּֽוֹב׃
“Is it not at the word of the Most High, that weal and woe befall?â€
The bad comes on its own to those who do bad, and the good will come upon the ones who do good!
Shabbat and Rosh Hodesh Shalom!
