By Rabbi Aharon Seleh:
In this week’s Parsha, the Jewish Nation’s complaint about their diet triggered a ” very mighty blow ” from Hashem. Many people died.
Nothing invokes such severe judgments as one’s complaints and dissatisfaction with one’s lot in life. The Torah clearly stated sadness as the root of life’s hardship “Because you failed to serve Hashem with happiness and goodness of heart when everything was abundant” (Deut. 28:47).
They disregard the thousands of life’s daily blessings. Hashem is always treating a person with compassion and mercy. When a person is dissatisfied with Hashem’s justice, the Heavenly court opens the person’s lifetime dossier to see whether the person’s complaint is justified. But inspection always shows that the person deserved greater tribulation and Hashem is ” caught in the act” of being excessively compassionate. The prosecuting angels demand justice and a person is liable to more tribulations.
On the other hand, continuous gratitude to Hashem for all the blessings He has and is giving us will nullify more and more of life’s tribulations.
Shabbat Shalom
