During these days of Omer, there is a custom in klal Yisrael to read Pirkei Avot. Pirkei Avot are the mishnayot that discuss ethical behavior. The reason Rabbi Akiva’s 24,000 students died, was because they fell short in the proper conduct and respect for each other. There was a lack of love between them.
The commentaries explain that the only way to love every Jew unconditionally and never hold a grudge, is by way of Emuna. Believing wholeheartedly that EVERYTHING that happens to us is from Hashem and it’s ALWAYS for the best. Anybody (and everybody!) who has an impact on our life, is just a pawn in Hashem’s hand. The persons individual bechira, free will, is irrelevant. There are thousands of levels of Emuna. The litmus test to find out your level is to see how many times you get frustrated or upset at things that happen to you. Someone with perfect Emuna would never have a reason to get upset or worried. After All, it’s all from Hashem and it’s always for the best.
Another litmus test is to see how often you turn to Hashem for things you need or help making decisions. Hashem is behind everything and could help you and would love to hear from you.
