Yaakov arrived safe (complete) in the city of Shechem which is in the land of Canaan—having come thus from Paddan-Aram—and he encamped before the city.
Rabenu Shlomo Elkabbes זצ״ל explains that we see Yaakov Avinu while living at home with Yishagh Avinu, learning Torah and delving in misvot day and night. The Torah says about him :
וְיַעֲקֹב֙ ×Ö´Ö£×™×©× ×ªÖ¸Ö¼Ö”× ×™Ö¹×©Öµ×֖ב ×ֹהָלִֽי×
According to the Targum of Onkelus it means to say he was complete.
We might have thought that this completeness and perfection came about because he had no interaction with the outside world and its hardships and distractions, being in an enclosed environment of strict Torah study. But if he were to face the challenges of the “outside world†he would succumb and fail and he would lose his composure and completeness…
The Holy Torah comes and teaches us that even with twenty years of struggle in an extremely hostile environment with Lavan and now the imminent attack of Esav, Yaakov Avinu kept his absolute equilibrium and remained perfect and complete!!!

We live in times where a person’s outlook and abilities and focus and priorities can easily be pushed off center… We need to learn from and follow our roots in standing strong with the correct outlook and priorities, may HaShem help us in this endeavor Amen.
